If you’ve ever met Liza, you know how in tune she is with all types or animals and people. You can see her in action at Indigo Summer Dog Fest 2010 where she will be talking about and offering Reiki to dogs and their humans.
The fun-filled festival is this Saturday, August 14th from 10am to 7pm. Activities include: scootering and K9 scent work demos, pet first aid and nutrition workshops, pet portrait photography, crafts where you bedazzle a shirt for your dog and your dog paints a shirt for you (my favorite,) live music and more.
Proceeds benefit Indigo rescue. Find the fun at 15640 Airport Way, Vernonia, OR. $10 per car includes 3 tickets for game entries. Friendly on-lease dogs welcome. Learn more at: www.indigorescue.org.
Congratulations to Anna Mortsfield as she finishes her first official week in her new Project Manager position in support of Wells Fargo’s Oregon Regional President of Retail Banking. Talk about the power of knowing what you want! After leaving Wells Fargo about a year ago, Anna took time to travel, relax, drink fine wine and restore a wonderful sense of balance to her life. While she was looking for her next career opportunity, she took on a temporary assignment or two until she was ready to set her sights on what she really wanted. Once that became clear, it was only a matter of time. She’s now back at Wells Fargo, but in an entirely new area where she has lots to learn and tremendous value to add.
Let’s all toast Anna tonight for making the transition look so fun and easy!
Are you concerned about lying, cheating, or stealing in the workplace? If so, register for this free webinar sponsored by Portland State University and presented by heartspark alumna Sally Rhys, Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional, of Focus on Business Ethics.
If there is no concern, that’s even more reason to register — what management doesn’t know could hurt them! Research shows small organizations are disproportionately victimized, median loss per incident is about $160,000, and losses equal about 5% of an organization’s annual revenue. Yikes!
On Tuesday, August 10, 2010 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM PDT Sally will, with her trademark wry wit, open your eyes to dangerous myths regarding misconduct in the workplace, and provide simple, inexpensive tips for businesses to protect themselves.
On June 12th, Marilyn Grey will graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in liberal studies, business & history from Eastern Oregon University – with honors no less. She’ll be inducted into the Honor Society on June 11th.
Congratulations Marilyn, you are an inspiration!
Jessica Schultz, whose singing style updates the vocal tradition of swinging jazz with Brazilian rhythms and eclectic arrangements, was recently “discovered” and interviewed by New York University professor Jason Stanyek. He plans to use her rendition of the Brazilian song “Corcovado” (known in English as “Quiet Nights”) in his new book on Brazilian music in the United States.
I’m sure he enjoyed hearing how she researches every word to make sure to understand, appreciate and properly interpret the message she conveys through her music.
It comes as no surprise to me that Cindy Tortorici is featured in the April issue of Goodness Magazine (see page 3 of the PDF/page 7 in the magazine.) The article, Goodness @ Work: A Glance at Corporate Philanthropy talks about how Cindy is devoted to helping women succeed and how, through her organization The Link for Women, she supports women to reach their own full potential through mentorship and connections. I can personally attest to the truth of those words and it is very nice to see her “goodness” being acknowledged in print.

Julie Adelman was in the enviable position, recently, to have to choose between multiple promising job offers and decided to join NuScale Power as their Senior Accountant. She’ll be working in Corvallis three days a week until April when they plan to open a Portland office.
It sounds like just the right combination of challenge and fun for her. I trust NuScale is ready to grow bigger, better, and faster now that Julie’s a part of the action.
On March 7, 2010 Karen Pesznecker ran 5.25 miles in 48:12 minutes. That’s a 9:10 pace! Her long-time goal was to run 5 miles in under 50 minutes. We all knew she could do it and now she does too!
Alis Mao kicked off 2010 with the New Year’s Eve grand opening of her new Dream Models modeling school. Then, earlier this month, she held her first art/fashion show at the Crown ballroom. A standing-room-only crowd (including Laura McBee and myself) enjoyed cocktails, decadent desserts, music and art as the “Tribute to Our Heroes” themed fashion show introduced Portland to fifteen fresh new models.
Earlier this year, Sally Rhys accepted a position with Umpqua Bank as Assistant Vice President and Compliance Program Manager. She feels very fortunate to have been offered the opportunity in such a universally well regarded company.
In addition to her fulltime gig at Umpqua, Sally plans to continue a small private practice in career and transition coaching. For those of you who know Sally, I’m sure you’ll agree that this sounds like the perfect combination for her – ethics and coaching – both are as natural to her as breathing.
