There is a humongous circle of people surrounding you, and they’re all waiting for you.
Waiting and hoping.
Hoping you’ll notice them and allow them to help you.
Things that are weighing you down come easily to them.
They even find them fun.
Hard to imagine, but it’s true.
So make their day. Invite them to help you.
Who is going to be the lucky one today?
… tomorrow?
… and the next day?
You catch my drift?
Let’s play a game. The only rule is that you have to take action whenever your head and heart agree.
That means when you’re asked, you say, “yes;” when the door opens, you walk through; when you get the urge to jump, you take the leap.
Only if it feels right, of course.
Game on!
Have you ever considered that the person who is barring the door to your success may be the same one who holds the key?
Sure enough.
I won’t mention any names, but it begins with [insert your name here]…
Use the key!
No matter what you want you already have what it takes.
Yep. No kidding.
If you believed that with all your heart – I mean really wrapped your brain around it – what might you do differently today?
Well, I say, “Go for it!”
One of my favorite quotes is from David Lykken, a behavioral geneticist who discovered:
“Happy is as happy does.”
The point being that nearly half of our happiness is determined by our thoughts and actions.
So even when it’s difficult to be happy you can still act happy.
How are you “doing happy” today?
Take one small step daily in the direction of your dream.
If you commit to this, I promise your dream will soon morph into a goal and then, before you know it, your goal will transform into reality. Dream → goal → reality.
To be honest about the entire cycle – your once impossible dream/new current reality eventually becomes passé and …voila, you’re ready to dream some more!
What a wondrous evolutionary cycle. Dream → goal → reality. Bigger dream → higher goal → even better reality and so on and so on.
Where are you in the cycle today?
Have you ever found yourself thinking, “If only I would have done ____ (fill in the blank) yesterday, last year, years ago (pick one)?
If so, consider this ancient Chinese proverb: “The best time to plant a tree was always 20 years ago. The second best time is always today.”
So, I guess it’s not too later after all.
Start now.
Studies show that people who make “to-do” lists get more done.
As you are making your list today, don’t forget to add at least one of the following (better yet, come up with one of your own):
- Smile until my cheeks hurt.
- Dance like I did in high school.
- Sing, loudly, even if I don’t know the lyrics.
- Jump, hop or skip.
- Laugh until the tears come.
You do plan to feel happy today, don’t you?
Then why wouldn’t you be as deliberate about that as you are the “important” stuff? I mean, what’s really important, after all?
I’ve asked around and the number one, absolute top reason most people don’t even begin to do what they most want to do is because they think their simple, little efforts won’t make the smallest dent in the distance between here and there.
Little do they know that inch-by-inch is a cinch compared to yard-by-yard, mile-by-mile, uphill-climb by uphill-climb.
Celebrate your inch today.
Quick, think of a song that inspires you. Not necessarily one that makes you want to dance. One that moves you in a different way.
Now, think through the lyrics and listen for a phrase that you can interpret as advice to apply to whatever you are dealing with today.
It takes a little effort, but this can be a fun mental exercise.
And you might actually learn something!
