There will soon come a day when you will have reached the top of the mountain, achieved success beyond your wildest imagination, mastered fame and fortune, changed the lives of so many for the better and you won’t be able to remember when you thought it to be impossible because it will be so easy and feel so natural.
Mark my words.
I will be there to walk down memory lane with you. It will be fun to play, “Remember when….?”
I want you to do something daring. Take a moment and compare yourself to those who are already doing what you want to do.
Then ask yourself: “Are they more deserving, inherently smarter, more spiritually connected or willing to work harder than you?”
I already know the answer.
Their success is not due to any of those things. It arrived, as it always does, simply because they believed it would, expected it to, and behaved accordingly.
What do your actions say about what you believe and expect?
Imagining (some call it dreaming) is the first step.
Pretending (acting as if it’s already true) allows you to “try it on.” And feeling how well it fits plants the seed of believing it can happen.
When you truly believe, then you begin to expect it. You know what? We almost always get what we expect.
It all starts in your mind.
What are you thinking?
It’s been my experience that most people are doing the absolute best they can with what they’ve been given.
Even that “idiot” who is making your life miserable right now has good intentions.
Yep.
So, how does considering that possibility change what you’re going to do next?
Keep taking little steps and expecting big results.
Before you know it, you’ll be far beyond where even you thought you were headed in the first place!
Have you ever had one of those days when it feels like you’re pushing a big rock uphill?
You know what I mean: People aren’t returning your calls. You’re hitting nothing but red lights. And the check is always “in the mail”.
It’s times like these when things are about to get good. Really good. As sure as night turns into day.
Expect it.
This just might be the most important question you’ll ask yourself today.
So, here goes:
“What can I do today that increases my readiness, demonstrates my expectancy and puts me right smack dab in the midst of the magic required to bring me face to face with what I want?”
Think about your answer. It may not require work, but it does require focus.
What are you focusing on today?
Believe & Expect may seem like an obvious concept to practice. After all, you don’t pursue a goal believing you’re not going to get it, right? Sometimes, though, you can be bothered with self-doubt, which can hamper your efforts to envision clearly what you want and move forward. Therefore it’s important to cultivate optimism when engaging in any meaningful life-change.
Laura King, a professor at the University of Missouri-Columbia, discovered this fact during an experimental study of optimism. She had participants come in twenty minutes each day for four days and write about their “best possible future selves.” This exercise entailed writing as if all their best dreams, all the goals that they imagined for themselves, were realized. Afterwards these people showed immediate increases in positive moods and even reported fewer physical ailments months later. When this exercise was repeated by another professor, Ken Sheldon, he also noted that these optimists exhibited “active and effective coping,” and they were more likely to “persist in the plan even when [they] hit inevitable obstacles.”
Give Optimism a Try
Even if you’ve never considered yourself an optimist, you can give your optimism a boost by engaging in the following activities:
- Acknowledge abundance. List the times in your life when things have happened just at the right time. These can be small, like finding a dollar bill on the sidewalk, or something more momentous, like bumping into an old friend in a grocery store who also happened to have a job opening. Chances are good that such serendipity will continue throughout your life, so why not envision the best for yourself?
- Aim high. When aiming at a target at the limits of her gun’s range, a target shooter sets her sights high to compensate for gravity. Likewise, whenever you set a goal, envision the best possible outcome. Even if you don’t achieve the exact result, you’ll feel better and go much farther than if you believed in a lesser outcome.
If you go forth on your journey with the foundation of your positive beliefs planted firmly under your feet, you’ll feel as if ALL your actions, big and small, have purpose.
Relax. You don’t have to worry about how you are going to do it.
In fact, the hardest part is to not predict the path it will take, but rather to insist on the change you expect to experience. Don’t take no for an answer.
Take action and believe it will happen. Imagine, then let go.
And save room for it be to even better than you thought it could be.
You know, just because you can do anything you set your mind to, attract whatever you need or want, and generally make magic happen by simply being yourself, doesn’t mean you have to do it all by yourself.
No kidding.
You can ask for help.
As much as you need.
And expect to receive it because we’ve all just been waiting for you to ask…
